Warwick Schiller is an Australian-born horseman whose journey from competitive reiner to internationally recognized teacher of connection-based horsemanship has made him one of the most compelling voices in the equestrian world. Born and raised on a 1,200-acre sheep and wheat farm in Young, New South Wales, he grew up riding under the influence of his father Ray, a rodeo champion and talented bull rider. Warwick began showing Quarter Horses as a child and, after visiting America in 1990, ended up working under NRCHA Hall of Famer Don Murphy before becoming an independent reining trainer in 1995.
His competitive credentials are substantial. Schiller became an NRHA Reserve World Champion and represented Australia at two World Equestrian Games โ in 2010 and again in 2018, where both he and his wife Robyn competed for Team Australia. He coached individuals who went on to earn NRHA World Championships, Rookie of the Year titles, Australian Championships, and U.S. Championships. His ability to break down complex horsemanship concepts into clear, accessible instruction led him to start a YouTube channel in 2011 that has since accumulated over 27 million views.
But the real transformation came when a chance encounter with a particular horse shifted his entire worldview. That experience sent Schiller on a deep exploration of psychology, neuroscience, Polyvagal Theory, and the mammalian nervous system โ work that fundamentally changed how he approaches horses and humans alike. He moved away from competition-focused training and toward what he now calls Attuned Horsemanship, a practice centered on understanding the emotional states of both horse and rider before any technique is applied.
In 2020, Schiller launched The Journey On Podcast to share this evolution. The show has accumulated over 3 million downloads and features long-form conversations with guests from far beyond the horse world โ therapists, neuroscientists, authors, indigenous wisdom keepers, and fellow horsemen โ all exploring the intersection of personal growth, connection, and the lessons horses teach us about ourselves. The podcast has spawned annual live Journey On Summits held on three continents, and Schiller published his first book, The Principles of Training, in 2023, which became an Amazon bestseller in the equine category.
Warwick lives with his wife Robyn in Hollister, California. Their son Tyler works remotely for the family business from Hawaii, handling marketing and the online video library. The Journey On Podcast is not a traditional horse training show โ it is a deeply human exploration of why we are drawn to horses and what they reveal about the work we still need to do on ourselves. For listeners ready to go deeper than technique, it is essential listening.
